Cimetidine and gastric cancer: a reappraisal

Abstract

Over two years have passed since fears were raised in the national press that cimetidine might cause gastric cancer.1 These fears arose from case reports of gastric cancer apparently developing during cimetidine treatment,2 and from the theory that taking cimetidine might increase N-nitroso compound formation in the stomach. What is the evidence now?
