Chlormezanone: from sedative to hypnotic?

Abstract

Chlormezanone (Trancopal - Winthrop), an anxiolytic1 and muscle relaxant, is chemically unrelated to the benzodiazepines or barbiturates. It was first introduced in 1961 as an anxiolytic and is still marketed as such. It is now being promoted as an hypnotic.
