Acyclovir - an important advance

Abstract

Acyclovir (ACV; Zovirax - Wellcome) is a new nucleoside analogue which, like idoxuridine and vidarabine,1 inhibits replication of some herpes viruses. It can be given as an intravenous infusion, tablets, eye ointment, or cream.
