Abstract

PC4 (Schering) is a packet of four tablets each containing 250μg levonorgestrel + 50μg ethinyloestradiol. It is intended for emergency use as postcoital contraception to be taken within 72 hours of a single episode of unprotected coitus. Like all other contraception this method is available free of charge. Postcoital contraception is described in the 1984 DHSS Handbook of Contraceptive Practice¹ and in an excellent new book which answers doctors’ questions about contraception.² It is better to prevent an unintended pregnancy than to resort to therapeutic abortion. Doctors and women need to know that this method is available.³
