▾ Postcoital contraception with PC4

Abstract

PC4 (Schering) is a packet of four tablets each containing 250μg levonorgestrel + 50μg ethinyloestradiol. It is intended for emergency use as postcoital contraception to be taken within 72 hours of a single episode of unprotected coitus. Like all other contraception this method is available free of charge. Postcoital contraception is described in the 1984 DHSS Handbook of Contraceptive Practice1 and in an excellent new book which answers doctors’ questions about contraception.2 It is better to prevent an unintended pregnancy than to resort to therapeutic abortion. Doctors and women need to know that this method is available.3
