Transdermal glyceryl trinitrate patches (transiderm-nitro)

Abstract

Organic nitrates have long been a mainstay in the treatment of angina pectoris and are also used in heart failure.1 A slow-release glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) skin patch (Transiderm-Nitro - Geigy) is now available for angina. The manufacturer claims that the patches are convenient and acceptable to patients, and produce anti-anginal activity lasting 24 hours after a single application.
