Abstract

We incorrectly stated that oestrogen increases liver synthesis of antithrombin III. Oestrogens decrease it thus increasing the risk of thromboembolism, but this effect may not be apparent at the doses used for hormone replacement (Bonnar J, Haddon M, Hunter DH, Richards DH, Thornton C. Postgrad Med J 1986; 52 (suppl 6): 30–34).
