Management of behavioural emergencies

Abstract

The treatment of acutely disturbed patients is a psychiatric and medical emergency. Swift intervention is needed both to induce calm and to stop patients harming themselves and others. This article concentrates on the use of drugs, which, together with approaches such as psychotherapy and nursing care contribute to the overall management of this condition.
