Trifyba – an improved bulk laxative?

Abstract

Trifyba (Sanofi Winthrop) is a bulk laxative derived from wheat bran. Its mode of action resembles that of bran (so differs from other medicinal bulk laxatives), but it is a more concentrated source of fibre. Trifyba has been available for 8 years, but has only recently become available on NHS prescription. Is it any more useful than natural bran and other bulk laxatives?
