Fluoxetine (Prozac – Lilly) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, an effective but expensive alternative to tricyclic antidepressants.1 Reports from the USA have linked its use to suicidal thoughts and violent behaviour – some patients complaining that they become obsessed with urges to harm themselves or others.
