Bulimia nervosa – common in women

Abstract

Between 1–2% of young adult women in this country suffer from bulimia nervosa1 with episodes of massive overeating (bulimia) associated with a sense of loss of control and a morbid fear of becoming fat.2 Between episodes most fast and/or induce vomiting. This article discusses the diagnosis and management of bulimia nervosa, a condition seen in women from all classes and cultures,3 but which rarely affects men.
