Abstract

Tight control of blood glucose concentrations levels in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus reduces the risk of long-term complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy, according to the results of two recent studies.1,2 However, intensive treatment trebles the risk of severe hypoglycaemia.
