Benzamycin gel for acne
Relevant BNF section: 13.6.1
Abstract
Benzamycin gel (Bioglan Laboratories), a combined formulation of 5% benzoyl peroxide and 3% erythromycin, was launched in the UK last year as a topical treatment for acne vulgaris. Its constituents are often prescribed together for the treatment of mild or moderate acne, usually one to be applied in the morning and the other at night. Does the combined preparation (which is expensive) have any advantages over separate preparations of benzoyl peroxide and erythromycin used concurrently?
