What role for topical antibacterials in acne?

Abstract

In 2009, nearly 1.2 million prescriptions for topical antibacterials were dispensed for acne in primary care in England, at a cost of nearly £15million (around 80% of expenditure on topical preparations for acne).1 Here we consider the place of such therapy, including the risk of bacterial resistance.
