Aldactide and dytide

Abstract

Aldactide tablets (Searle) contain a thiazide diuretic (hydroflumethiazide, 25 mg) together with an aldosterone antagonist (spironolactone, 25 mg). The manufacturers recommend this mixture for the treatment of oedema and essential hypertension. The potassium-sparing effect of Aldactide is similar to that of Dytide (SKF), a mixture of benzthiazide (25 mg) and triamterene (50 mg), although triamterene,1 unlike spironolactone, does not antagonise aldosterone.
