Sulphasalazine in ulcerative colitis

Abstract

Sulphasalazine (Salazopyrin - Pharmacia), a diazo compound of sulphapyridine and 5-amino-salicylic acid, has been used in the treatment of ulcerative colitis since 1941.1 Many reports claim that it can induce remissions in a significant proportion of attacks,2–7 and can prevent relapses.2 8
