The effectiveness of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programme in Scotland has been assessed in a 7-year crosssectional study.1 The HPV immunisation programme was introduced in September 2008.2 Routine vaccination for HPV types 16 and 18 was targeted at 12- to 13-year-old girls, of whom 92% were fully vaccinated in 2008–09.1 The study reports on vaccine effectiveness of the bivalent vaccine in these vaccinated women who attended for routine cervical screening at age 20–21 years.
