Key learning points
It has been proposed that vitamin D supplementation could be beneficial in people with multiple sclerosis (MS).
This updated Cochrane review found no effect of vitamin D on relapse rates, disability or changes in parameters of disease activity.
The findings should be interpreted with caution because of the small numbers of studies and low quality of evidence.
A systematic review of evidence from randomised controlled trials found no benefit for vitamin D treatment for multiple sclerosis.1
