Abstract

DOXYCYCLINE (Vibramycin - Pfizer) is α-6-deoxytetracycline; most of Pfizer’s leaflets do not state that it is a tetracycline and give the impression that it is an entirely new type of broad-spectrum antibiotic. In fact its properties resemble those of other tetracyclines with a long duration of action such as methacycline and demethyl-chlortetracycline.¹
