Bisolvon

Abstract

Bromhexine hydrochloride (Bisolvon - Boehringer Ingelheim) has been used on the continent for some years, and is now being promoted in Britain as a ‘New Fundamental Approach to the Problem of Sputum’. The makers suggest that it should be used in acute and chronic bronchitis and other conditions where tenacious sputum is a problem. They claim first that it disrupts the felt-work of acid mucopolysaccharide film in mucoid broncial secretions, reducing their viscosity, and second that this eases expectoration.
