Gingivitis - bleeding and inflamed gum - is the most prominent sign of chronic periodontal disease which, untreated, leads to resorption of alveolar bone (periodontitis) and ultimately loss of teeth.¹ Periodontal disease has for many years been the major cause of tooth loss after the age of 35.²
