Abstract

Gingivitis - bleeding and inflamed gum - is the most prominent sign of chronic periodontal disease which, untreated, leads to resorption of alveolar bone (periodontitis) and ultimately loss of teeth.1 Periodontal disease has for many years been the major cause of tooth loss after the age of 35.2
