Long-acting fluphenazine injections
Abstract
Many patients with chronic schizophrenic psychoses cannot be relied on to take their drugs.1–3 Since some of them need to continue on a phenothiazine, its withdrawal may lead to relapse.4–6 Injections of a long-acting phenothiazine may therefore help in the management of chronic schizophrenia and possibly other chronic mental illnesses. Two such preparations of fluphenazine are available, the enanthate (Moditen enanthate - Squibb) and the decanoate (Modecate - Squibb).
