Abstract

Boots have reformulated their anti-diarrhoeal preparation Ivax. The new formulation sensibly omits sulphaguanidine which is very unlikely to alter the efficacy of the mixture; it now contains only neomycin and kaolin. Unfortunately the risk remains that such a preparation will be used for undiagnosed diarrhoea, which is frequently caused by neomycin-resistant organisms.
