Mixing insulin preparations

Abstract

To control the blood glucose level in diabetics it is sometimes necessary to use more than one type of insulin. Any two insulin preparations may be administered by separate injections - ideally at different sites, but patients prefer a single injection. If two types of insulin are required it is an advantage to be able to mix these beforehand in one syringe. This note summarises which preparations can be safely mixed and which are not suitable for mixing in this way.1 – 3
