People with hip or knee osteoarthritis benefit in a range of ways from taking part in exercise programmes, a Cochrane review concluded, although there was a high risk of bias in the included studies.1
The reviewers carried out qualitative and quantitative analysis of studies that examined the effects of exercise programmes.1 Exercise-based rehabilitation programmes, delivered in hospital or in the community, could consist of any type of land- or water-based exercise that aimed to improve symptoms.
