    Key learning points

    • This systematic review assessed whether oral risperidone alone is an effective treatment for psychosis‐induced aggression or agitation.

    • No studies reported on the primary outcome of tranquilisation within 30 min.

    • Very low-quality data for the main outcomes suggested no real effect for oral risperidone.

    A lack of evidence for using oral risperidone for rapid tranquilisation has highlighted the need for more clinical trials evaluating oral antipsychotics in the emergency setting.1
