Aldactone and Aldactone-A

Abstract

Aldactone-A (Searle) is a new formulation of spironolactone, an aldosterone-antagonist diuretic first marketed as Aldactone in 1960. A 25 mg tablet of Aldactone-A is offered as the equivalent of the previous 100 mg tablet. This equivalence, resulting from improved absorption, has been demonstrated by both blood levels and clinical response. While the average diuretic dose of Aldactone-A is 25 mg four times daily, individual requirements vary, and some patients may require up to four times as much for a full diuretic effect.
