Lymphoma syndrome induced by anticonvulsants

Abstract

The purpose of this note is to draw the attention of physicians to the occurrence of lymphadenopathy as an infrequent but important side effect of the hydantoins and related anticonvulsants. This complication is not mentioned in manufacturers’ brochures. The fully developed syndrome may mimic infectious mononucleosis or the malignant lymphomas (clinically and occasionally, histologically) and may invite unnecessary and dangerous treatment.
