AB A variety of steroid drugs, including oestrogens, androgens, combinations of the two, other anabolic agents related to testosterone, and various calcium preparations are used for the treatment of postmenopausal and senile osteoporosis. Although the fundamental causes of the disease are not known, and investigators disagree on the effectiveness of treatment, there is sufficient evidence to justify palliative therapy.
