Nevertheless, experimental trials of fluoride in the treatment of osteoporosis, otosclerosis, Paget’s disease, multiple myeloma and secondary carcinoma have led to recommendations for their routine use in these conditions.1–3 So far no manufacturer has made a submission concerning such uses to the Safety of Drugs Committee, and no preparation is marketed for these purposes.
