Capsules containing a lower dose than the original tablets are now being marketed with claims that it is a ‘fundamental’ treatment for anxiety and that ‘it goes straight to the root of the problem and combats the disturbed brain-chemistry that underlies anxiety’. Like some other major tranquillisers, e.g. reserpine, oxypertine does lower amine levels in the central nervous system in animal preparations. ER -
