Dextrostix and azostix

Abstract

Dextrostix and Azostix strips (Ames) are intended for the rapid estimation of blood glucose and urea respectively. Each test strip consists of a small rectangle of absorbent paper impregnated with reagents, covered by a semipermeable membrane and attached to a handle. Dextrostix strips were introduced in 1964 and many reports on their performance and practical value exist. Less information is available on Azostix strips which were marketed in October 1967.
