Two more new antidepressives: mianserin and butriptyline

Abstract

Mianserin (Bolvidon - Organon; Norval - Bencard) and butriptyline (Evadyne - Ayerst) are antidepressive agents chemically related to other drugs already available. Mianserin, developed originally in a search for a 5-hydroxytryptamine antagonist, has a tetracyclic structure whereas butriptyline is a tricyclic compound with a dibenzocycloheptene ring, as in amitriptyline, and the branched side-chain of trimipramine.
