Phototherapy for neonatal jaundice

Abstract

The observation that jaundiced serum left in sunlight changed colour from yellow to green,1 first led to the exposure of jaundiced infants to sunlight2 and then to artificial light.3 Since then phototherapy has been used in neonatal units for the prevention and treatment of neonatal jaundice.4
