The risks of radio-isotopes in medical diagnosis

Abstract

Investigations using radio-isotopes are now widely available. In some circumstances they can be used as an alternative to x-ray examination (e.g. bone scan and skeletal survey); in others one type of investigation is more appropriate than the other. Nevertheless it is relevant to compare the risks from these two approaches and to understand the different exposure involved in each.
