Abstract

Hyperactivity in childhood is a persisting pattern of chaotic and disorganised behaviour, in which the main features are inattention, overactivity and impulsiveness. When severe, hyperactivity may impair normal development and lead to disabilities in learning, to personality problems, and to antisocial conduct. Such activity places considerable demands on parents and teachers. In this article we discuss the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children with hyperactivity.
