Relevant BNF section: 5.1.1-2
Abstract
Penicillins are among the most useful and frequently prescribed antibiotics. They can, however, cause allergic reactions ranging from mild rashes to life-threatening anaphylaxis. In this article, we discuss the risks of developing allergic reactions and ways of avoiding them. We also consider the problems arising from cross-reactivity between penicillins and related (beta-lactam) antimicrobials.
