▾Aztreonam: a narrow spectrum against gram-negative aerobes

Abstract

Aztreonam (Azactam - Squibb) is the first monobactam (MONOcyclic BACterially produced β-lacTAM) to be marketed. Monobactams differ from penicillins and cephalosporins in having no ring structure attached to the β-lactam nucleus. Aztreonam is promoted as an alternative to aminoglycosides such as gentamicin.
