Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide combined: ▾acezide/▾capozide

Abstract

The angiotension converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, captopril,1 enalapril2 and lisinopril3 are used either alone, or with other drugs, to treat hypertension and cardiac failure. Now a fixed dose combination of captopril 50mg with hydrochlorothiazide 25mg (Acezide – Duncan Flockhart; Capozide - Squibb) is promoted as a single daily dose for treating “mild to moderate hypertension in patients who have been stabilised on the individual components given in the same proportions”. How useful is this combination?
