Nitrates in heart disease

Abstract

The nitrates are vasodilator drugs well established in the treatment of angina and left ventricular failure. Oral and sublingual preparations have long been used, but recently new routes of administration and new compounds have been introduced. This article discusses which of the confusing variety of preparations is best suited to each purpose.
