Idiopathic hypercalciuria: can we reduce stone formation?

Abstract

Patients who form recurrent urinary calculi composed of calcium oxalate or phosphate can face a lifetime of recurrent pain. They have normal plasma calcium levels; although on average they absorb and excrete more calcium than healthy controls1 the overlap is large.2 How can they best be helped?
