Do progestagens prevent habitual abortion?

Abstract

Progesterone is produced by the corpus luteum in the first trimester of pregnancy and thereafter largely by the placenta. Urinary levels of the metabolite pregnanediol are frequently taken as an index of placental progesterone production, but not more than 20% of the hormone is excreted as urinary pregnanediol.1
