Adoption: social aspects that may concern the doctor

Abstract

Particularly in general practice, doctors are liable to be consulted about babies that the mother cannot keep, or by couples who want to adopt a child and may not know how to approach such problems. The transfer of a child is a complex and delicate operation that requires the skill of an experienced worker and the team and resources at his disposal. This note deals mainly with the social aspects of adoption, not with the controversy about ‘matching’.
