Sodium cromoglycate aerosol

Abstract

Sodium cromoglycate (Intal) is now available as a metered-dose pressurised aerosol, an alternative to powder inhalation from Spincaps which Fisons have marketed for the treatment of asthma for 14 years. An important feature of the Spincaps/Spinhaler system has been its ease of operation and efficiency1 and this led to the introduction of powder inhalers for delivering β-stimulants and corticosteroids for those patients who found the pressurised aerosol techniques difficult to manage.2 However, the pressurised aerosol system has the advantage of being less obtrusive and quieter and so the introduction of sodium cromoglycate aerosol is an obvious step.
