Abstract

Sodium cromoglycate (Intal) is now available as a metered-dose pressurised aerosol, an alternative to powder inhalation from Spincaps which Fisons have marketed for the treatment of asthma for 14 years. An important feature of the Spincaps/Spinhaler system has been its ease of operation and efficiency¹ and this led to the introduction of powder inhalers for delivering β-stimulants and corticosteroids for those patients who found the pressurised aerosol techniques difficult to manage.² However, the pressurised aerosol system has the advantage of being less obtrusive and quieter and so the introduction of sodium cromoglycate aerosol is an obvious step.
