  • Very rare but serious adverse events affecting the musculoskeletal and nervous systems have been observed in people taking systemic fluoroquinolones.

  • The most common events were tendonitis, tendon rupture and paraesthesia.

  • At the first sign of tendonitis, treatment with fluoroquinolones should be stopped.

  • Use fluoroquinolones with special caution in people aged over 60 years, people with renal impairment and those who have had solid organ transplants.
